Squeaky Clean
A downloadable game for Windows
NOTE: Had to re-upload because I forgot to reset some variables I used for testing some features back to their defaults, causing undesired behaviors.
This is an early proof of concept for a game I and my friends have created for Bullet Hell Game Jam 5.
Originally, it was supposed to be fully fledged out project, but because it's our first time creating something like this (I have only learned really early basics of the Godot Engine before starting) and us being preoccupied with school, we bit off way more than we could chew, and only had time to create this prototype.
I want to see it fully come to life, so I will continue updating the game after taking a short break, adding extra visuals, audio, and upgrades that were prepared during the jam by our team but I didn't have the time to implement.
Play testing was minimal, so be prepared for bugs or crashes. Let me know how it occurred so I can patch them up.
DESCRIPTION
In a world where Cheese had gained sentience and ultimately becoming endangered by ravenous rats who have gotten a taste of living dairy products, you the are last of your kind, trying to get by.
Thankfully a restaurant nearby is hiring a dish washer, the human owner of which doesn't particularly care about what you are as long as the job is done. Unfortunately, one of the rat mafia families within this city has caught wind of your existence, and is now sending in its goons after you.
To aid in your survival, you're able to spend your money to upgrade your existing facilities, and you have heard of a mysterious figure that will be able to provide you new tools and powers for a... price.
With your back against the wall, your every decision counts. How long will you last in a world that's out to consume you?
BASIC CONTROLS:
- LEFT CLICK to grab items
- RIGHT CLICK to block. If blocking right before getting hit, you'll take no damage (perfect block)
- SPACE to clean the dishes (while holding a sponge over the plates)
HOW TO:
The game has a lot of moving parts, but here are a few things you need to be aware of.
You and Your Sink - Both you and your sink have health points, and will be attacked by the enemies. It's up to you to manage both health bars.
If your health bar reaches zero, it's game over and you will have to start from day 1. If the sink's health reaches zero, the plate you're currently washing in the sink is destroyed before getting replaced. This is a less drastic outcome out of the two, as it will only set you back on the amount of money you have when its time for upgrades.
Abilities - At the start, you will not be able to do much aside from cleaning the dishes. However, after the first day, you will be approached by a stranger that will give you ability to fight back at the cost of your maximum health. It's not pretty, but you have to do something in order to survive.
Objects - The majority of the objects can be picked up and thrown about. This includes dead enemies. The damage the enemies receive is determined by the velocity, weight of the object, and angle at which they were hit.
Days - the days determine the overall difficulty and amount of dishes you have to clean. Once you clean all of the dishes (dish counter will be added soon), you will be allowed to upgrade your character before moving onto the next day. You have 7 days before the enemy boss arrives.
ENEMIES
Rats come in many shapes and sizes, and the mafia family that's after you is no exception.
Grunts
Quite abundant, and quite petty. These rats will mostly ignore the player and instead go straight for the sink instead, opting to reduce your income, and overall chances of survival, instead of going after you directly.
Supports
Wearing a huge backpack filled with tools, the little rats scurry around the battlefield, searching for a nearby rat they can Overcharge. Overcharged rats have a green plus over their head as they shoot faster and in larger quantities. Even by themselves they're not harmless, opting to drop beneath them the hamper you instead of idly standing by.
Tootpicks
Named after their weapon of choice, Toothpick rats will run around with a rubber-operated-toothpick-fed smg, shooting at the player, occasionally dropping a toothpick grenade. When Overcharged, they shoot an obscene amount of projectiles in a pattern and drop two grenades at once. Very dangerous in larger numbers.
Demolition
These rat bastards are as sturdy as they are lethal. Utilizing a pencil launcher that launches homing explosive projectiles, they can target and damage either the player or the sink.
Even whittling down their health will not take them out of the fight, as they will fall on the counter and stand back up to march towards the sink alongside its fellow Grunts.
Although dangerous, they can be an asset when dealing with huge hordes of enemies, since the pencil missiles will explode if they hit anything, and the rats themselves are rather heavy, making them amazing projectiles you can throw at enemies that pack quite a punch.
